IBIZA CASTLE RENOVATION
Ibiza, Spain, 1991 World Heritage Site
Ministerio de Cultura, Instituto de Conservación y Restauración de Bienes Culturales with S. Roig & X. Pallejá
The new stairs allow access to the door of the Arabic wall with a path similar to the ramps of the 18th century. The stairs begin at the plaza, next to the Bishop´s palace.
The walls have been dressed with marès stone blocks (a stone of Ibiza origin) that are of the same color as Medieval linen cloth. The rapid aging of the marès stones have made the new construction seem like old construction.
The stairs leave and return, and in the roof of the first flight appears, incrusted in copper and zinc metals, the 1544 plan of the fortress of the city drawn by Giovanni Baptista.
