BALUARD DEL PRÍNCPE
Palma de Mallorca, Spain, 2013
Ajuntament de Palma & Ministerio de Obras Públicas
The military housing blocks on the Baluard del Príncep and its moat have been demolished. The remaining raised area of the bastion is salvaged as a public boulevard with new access stairs and ramps. The slopes that accompany them are clad with blocks of cut marés sandstone and are crowned with Santanyí stone.
In the near future, a new plaza with trees will occupy part of the void left by the demolition of one of the housing blocks, and another part –between two of the ramps– will become an information point for Palma's historical centre. The restoration of the arches of Pont de la Porta de Camp and the moat will be undertaken sometime in the future.
