CULTURAL AND ARTISAN CENTER ANTONI TUR "GABRIELET"
Sant Francesc, Formentera, Spain, 2010
Consell Insular de Formentera
The two buildings that were once the barracks of the Civil Guard have been replaced by two volumes identical to the original ones. The new buildings have been built in concrete with no internal structural walls. The large openings in the longitudinal walls allow permeability between the interior spaces and the patios. The tiled roofs of the two buildings merge at their two ends and cover part of the central patio, offering shelter during open-air performances.
The patios connect the street with the Les Eres garden and are roofed by the bougainvillea that will intertwine along the cables.
The building is to become an exhibition centre for local arts and crafts and a temporary farmers' market selling local produce.
Together with the old church and the old town hall, this small, new complex helps to preserve the modest and sober atmosphere of Sant Francesc's first town centre.
