CLIENT La Espiga 1928 S.L
LOCALIZATION C/. San Marcial nº 48. San Sebastián - Donostia
SURFACE 390 m2.

Since 1928, La Espiga is a gastronomic meeting space of reference in Donostia. The building where it is located is in a reconstruction phase. Its ground and underground floors will house the new premises that are given a renewed contemporaneous image, projecting the future ahead without loosing contact with tradition of the past. A place dedicated to the usual customers and to the city visitors, where they would feel identified and enjoy agreeable moments. A warm and timeless place inspired by the landscape, culture, light and materials that characterizing Guipúzcoa, Donosita and its March 28, 2007 people. It escapes a fashionable design. The ground floor is a tribute to the province, the underground floor to the city.

Ground floor: Continuity of the white pavement of the sidewalk inside of the bar. The ceiling and back wall of the bar are covered with natural wood, with a stratified scheme reminding the guipuzcoan cliffs. The sculptured bar of oxidized metal and the retro-illuminated wine rack, accompany us from the street entrance to the interior of the bar. Six mural reproductions of Sert in San Telmo symbolizing the six rivers that compose Guipúzcoa. In the back, an allegorical mural of the Cantábrico extends down to the underground floor through a patio of natural light.

In the underground floor: The ambiance of the gastronomic society is recreated, a cultural and social aspect of the city. A stair of oxidized sheet composes the space. The kitchen is integrated to the restaurant. The bathrooms constitute a separation between a private lounge with a direct access from the street. The continuous floor is composed with the other characteristic paving of the city: the sand of the beach of la Concha.
